Seek God – Amos 5:6a
Seek the Lord that you may live.
Seek the Lord while He may be found; listen to His call that you may live,[1] and in seeking and listening, be assured by the promises in His Word that you will find Him when you will search for Him with your whole heart.[2]
We know that the day will come when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Those who chose Him as their sovereign Lord and Savior while they lived and breathed on the earth[3] will bow before His Majesty, King Jesus, with rejoicing and gladness. They will lift their voices in praise, leap for joy, and clap their hands in delight for they are part of the royal family, and they have received the gift of an eternity seated in the heavenly places with their King.
Sadly, those who trampled on the name of the Son of God while relishing the world’s pleasures will not join in the jubilation. They too will bow and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,[4] but tragically, they will have no joy or hope. Instead, they will weep and gnash their teeth when they comprehend that they will never enter through the gates into the kingdom of heaven,[5] being doomed to endless ages apart from God.
Examine your heart. Do not be like the sad souls who find themselves cut off from heaven’s beauty and Christ’s fellowship. Consider where you will spend eternity. Have you sealed your heart to Christ, having turned to Him while there is yet time?[6] Have you given Him your whole heart, making Jesus your Lord and Savior, becoming a doer of the Word, not merely a hearer who, being deluded, refuses to enter into the salvation of the Lord?[7] If not, recognize that you cannot depend on the Lord giving you another day on this earth. Therefore, do not flirt with an eternity separated from God, for assuredly, you would prefer rejoicing, singing, and dancing to weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Turn to Christ today, and you will find Him gracious and merciful, ready to receive you and to guide you in righteousness to the joy-filled, holy place where He sits at the right hand of the Father.[8] Call upon His name, confessing your sins, repenting of them, putting your trust in the Lord. Seek Him, and you will find Him, and in finding Him, you will gain eternal life, for He will never forsake those who know Him and put their trust in Him.[9]
Consider how you’ll spend your days
Across the centuries
Will you dance and leap for joy
For all eternity
Will you clap your hands in praise
And join the angels’ song
Will you rejoice that for all time
You truly do belong
To the family of God
Brother, sister to the Lord
Will excitement fill your heart
While the soul within you soars
Above the clouds, above the fray
Will you join the heavens’ host
Whose hearts for Christ cannot contain
The love of which they boast
Will you dwell under the light
That illuminates the place
Where Jesus reigns eternally
Will you be saved by grace
