Immutable Word – 1 Peter 1:25

But the Word of the Lord endures forever, and this is the Word which was preached to you.

Though grass withers, flowers fade, and generations pass away, the Holy Scriptures stands forever;[1] they are the same yesterday, today, tomorrow, and for evermore.[2]  God has spoken it, given it as divine revelation to His chosen scribes, and included within its pages His sacred, unchanging commandments to light the pathway to life,[3] leading those who will follow them upwards, drawing them nearer to Christ.[4]

Others may indulge in impure, dishonest, and deceptive behavior, but we cannot, for the Word of truth is calling us to the Lord’s holy dwelling place where we will abide with Him in the truth we learn through His perfect law.[5]  Society does not set our standards, for the One who created the universe and everything within it tells us through His Word what is good and right.  He who formed us in our mother’s womb knows what is profitable for us, and because He delights in seeing His children prosper, He instructs us in the way leading to fullness of joy.

Having so great a treasure freely given to us, we who seek the Lord and desire His blessing will allow His Word to be our guide and will base our lives upon its truths and instruction, allowing no other message to corrupt our thinking.  We will use it to protect our hearts and to enable us to hold firm against the lure of our culture, as society attempts to anesthetize us into accepting its mores, even though they stand in stark contrast to the purifying, life-giving teachings of Scripture.  We will cover our ears as society preaches that God’s Word is an anachronism, irrelevant for those living in a post-modern era.  We will listen to the Spirit, who abides within us, as He witnesses to us that the Word is immutable, timeless, and applicable to all people in every age, in the same way as it was in ancient times

Treasure the Word, learn it, memorize it, and obey its instructions, and it will keep you from sinning against the Lord, your God.[6]  Do not compromise its truths, for Christ is the Truth.  He calls us to remain in the Truth, which we learn in the unfailing, everlasting Word of God.  Walk in the wisdom laid out in the Holy Scriptures, loving, trusting, and obeying God, and the Word, God’s gift to us, which is too wonderful for words, will lead you to a place where peace rises above your comprehension and joy exceeds your greatest hope.[7]
