After God’s Own Heart – Acts 13:22
After He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who will do all My will.
Whom among us does not desire the Father’s anointing with holy oil that we might take on His character and become a person after His own heart?
Rejoice, as followers of Jesus and lovers of the Holy Scripture, for the Lord has reserved seats of honor and esteem for us in His service. He is equipping us to receive our positions beside Him by performing a work of righteousness within us and transforming us into living and holy sacrifices acceptable to Him.[1] Through the work of His Holy Spirit within our yielded hearts, He is making us worthy to walk with God and enabling us to perform profitable kingdom work. He is grafting us into His family and changing us into a people able to minister in His name, a people beautified with salvation, a people who delight Him.[2]
While the Light will not dwell with the darkness, God gives sufficient grace to overcome the darkness.[3] Therefore, if we desire friendship with the Light, that we might be pleasing to its source, we must receive God’s grace. We must ask Him to strengthen us against temptation and to enable us to flee from evil, from the love of money, from immorality and impurity, from those hateful idols that desire to entice us away from Christ altogether.[4] By faithfully loving and serving God, reflecting His holy attributes, we will grow in stature before Him. As we dedicate ourselves to knowing Him, to purifying our hearts, and to cleansing our hands, He will draw nearer to us and will dwell among us.[5] As we obey His instruction to stand resolute in faith, keeping His commandments while striving to live as Jesus’ godly disciples, He will bless us[6] and fill us with His light.
Become a person after God’s own heart. Pursue Him and hold fast to His ways. Remain untainted by sin, fleeing from temptation, striving for holiness, and preserving a good conscience as you walk in the Lord’s instruction and admonition.[7] Follow Him onto the path of purity, righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, gentleness, and peace. Grow in love for Him, so your face will shine in holy radiance as the Lord looks down from heaven and says, “You are my beloved with whom I am well pleased.â€
