Trust in Time of Trouble – Psalm 37:5

Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He will do it.

Our circumstances may be calamitous and our future scary, but we need not forfeit our peace. Rather than growing faint, we, having received sufficient grace from our loving Father, can remain firm in faith. In His grace, we can stand without wavering in the joy He gives to those who trust in His promises, for He tells us that all things work together for the good of those who love Him, those He has called according to His purpose.[1]

We can lift our burdens to Him and, having relinquished them to the One who gathered the wind in His fist and established all the ends of the earth,[2] we can rest in absolute confidence, knowing that our Father is over all, through all and in all,[3] and if He is for us, none can stand against us.[4]  Having obeyed His instruction to acknowledge Him in all our ways, to trust Him with all our hearts, and to pray with thanksgiving about that which presses upon our minds,[5] we can rest with the sweet sleep of children, who carry no cares into their dreams, trusting in their parents’ provision.

Therefore, when a tornado rips through your life, run into the fortified tower of your Father’s protection and take refuge until the destruction passes by.[6]  In walking through the towering shadow of death, find comfort in the Lord’s promise to dry your tears and to turn your night of weeping into joy in the morning.[7]  Always, even in the scariest of times, especially in the scariest of times, commit your way to the Lord for He is a rock of strength and a stronghold to us.[8]  Stand in faith, praying, and studying the Word, allowing it to assure your heart.  Observe the evidence before your eyes of God’s loving-kindness, and be persuaded by the magnitude of His power and depths of His devotion that He will guard that which you have entrusted to Him until the day you reside with Him in Paradise.[9]

Take your burdens to the Lord, and having relinquished them to Him, leave them with Him.  Recognizing His infinite creativity and resourcefulness, trust Him to provide a way over the massive peaks and across the cavernous abyss laying before you, and He will bring you into a remarkable place, a place with calm waters, clear skies, fruit in season and out of season, and an abundance of every good thing.[10]

I stood upon the lonely hill
The night was black, icy, and still
Pain cut deeper than the deep
My wounded heart bowed low to weep

And cry out to the only Man
Who possibly could understand
The loss I somehow must endure
Until I step on heaven’s shore

Until my faith at last is sight
Until I stand in God’s pure light
When pain and sorrow lose their hold
And rock-strewn paths become pure gold

When dressed in robes of purest wool
To know the Father’s plan in full
As praise and joy replace my fears
As oil flows in place of tears

And as I laid my burden down
Jesus said, “You’ll wear a crown
Of righteousness, perfect and true
And I will stand each day with you

“So trust in Me, though your heart breaks
Although the ground beneath you quakes
Drink from the streams of love and grace
And rest secure in My embrace”
